Fredericksburg firefighters extinguished a commercial building fire Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, on Harkness Boulevard, with mutual aid from Stafford and Spotsylvania counties, according to the Fredericksburg Fire Department as reported by Fredericksburg VA Patch. No injuries were reported. Crews said the building required extensive ventilation before it could be safely occupied again.
Regional response
Prince William County Fire and Rescue sent Mobile Ventilation Unit 512 and personnel to help remove smoke from the structure. Stafford County Fire and Rescue and Spotsylvania County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management also provided crews to staff Fredericksburg fire stations while city firefighters remained at the scene. Fire officials initially warned that crews would be on site for an extended period and asked the public to avoid the area during the response.
Same site as June warehouse fire
Patch reported that the Fire Department confirmed on Facebook that another fire occurred at the same Harkness Boulevard location earlier this year. In June, city officials said emergency communications received a warehouse fire report in the 10-block of Harkness Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. Arriving crews saw smoke from the roof, deployed hose lines, and noted that the building sprinkler system had activated. The Fredericksburg Fire Marshal's Office later determined that June fire originated in a large industrial shredder that was operating at the time; the cause was listed as undetermined. No injuries were reported in that incident either, and mutual-aid partners then included Spotsylvania, Stafford, and Charles County, Maryland's Tenth District Volunteer Fire Department Airboat 8 for ventilation.
As of Tuesday evening, the Fire Department had not disclosed a cause for the latest fire, the extent of damage, whether the same shredder was involved, or whether the two fires are connected, according to Patch.
